Barry Rassin is a global Rotary leader known for advancing environmental sustainability and essential water and sanitation initiatives through Rotary International. As Rotary International President in 2018-2019 and later Chair of The Rotary Foundation for 2023-2024, Rassin championed Rotary’s role in addressing environmental challenges, advocating that caring for the environment is integral to Rotary’s humanitarian mission. He emphasized topics like climate change and sustainable development as critical to improving health and livelihoods worldwide.
Rassin is a founder and long-time leader of HANWASH – Haiti National Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Strategy, a collaborative initiative aimed at providing sustainable access to clean water, improved sanitation, and hygiene across Haiti. Under his guidance, Rotary worked with Haitian government partners and international organizations to develop long-term systems that support safe and affordable water services for communities, aligning with United Nations sustainable development goals.
Throughout his Rotary service (beginning in 1980 with the Rotary Club of East Nassau), Rassin has leveraged Rotary’s global network to scale environmental and water-related programs that focus on durable impact, local leadership, and community health.
He also brings extensive leadership experience from a 38-year career in health systems administration in the Bahamas and has been recognized for his humanitarian contributions and environmental foresight in service above self.
